Sand Casting with Found Objects

This workshop is all about capturing memories, textures, and moments. Everyday objects often hold special meaning. Through sand casting, they can be transformed into a lasting piece of jewelry or a small silver sculpture.

Did you know that you can cast almost anything using the sand casting method? From LEGO pieces and seashells to old keys or small objects you treasure.

In this hands-on workshop, I will introduce you to the ancient technique of sand casting, where you’ll learn how to transform found objects into solid sterling silver pieces. Bring along small keepsakes you love: shells, buttons, charms, tiny toys, seeds, textured metal, or other small objects. And we can turn them into a pendant, charm, or unique silver object you can keep forever.

Sand casting captures every tiny detail from the surface of your object, creating an organic and one-of-a-kind piece with beautiful texture and character.

This is a 2-hour workshop at my Leiden studio, and no prior experience is necessary. The workshop fee does not include the sterling silver used. Once your piece is finished, we will weigh it and determine the final material cost based on its weight.

It’s also a wonderful way to reuse and recycle materials, turning something simple into a meaningful and unique metal piece. You are also welcome to bring your own silver or gold. Sand casting is a wonderful way to recycle old, unused precious metals and give them a new life.
